West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly responded to critics questioning the state's law and order situation, asserting her stance during the inauguration of the Ganga Sagar Mela 2024. Mamata Banerjee reminded the critics that the metro city has been adjudged the safest city in the country for years by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
"I am not bothered about criticisms against me. But, I will protest if anyone tries to malign the state. Those questioning the law and order situation are trying to malign the state," the chief minister said while addressing the 'Students' Week' programme here.
The recent attack on ED officers, where three suffered injuries and vehicles were vandalized, prompted concerns about West Bengal's law and order. The incident, involving Trinamool Congress supporters associated with Shajahan Sheikh, led to Governor CV Ananda Bose and Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay expressing their concerns.
However, during the 'Students' Week' closing ceremony at Dhane Dhanya auditorium, Chief Minister Banerjee did not address the specific incident in Sandeshkhali, leaving many anticipating her response to the critical situation.
